Snowballer Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 29, 2026
Snowballer ("the app", "we", "us") is a personal habit and spending tracker.
This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the
choices you have. The short version: your data is yours, it is used only to run
the app's features, and we never sell it or share it for advertising. By using
Snowballer you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password to authenticate you and sync your data across devices. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Supabase) and are never visible to us in plain text.
- Content you create. The habits, habit completions, challenges, transactions (spending and income), amounts, categories, merchants, notes, and tags you enter in the app.
- Receipt and check photos you choose to scan. If you use receipt or check scanning, the image you select or capture is uploaded to our backend storage and sent to our AI provider to extract details (amount, date, merchant, etc.).
- Statement and screenshot images you choose to scan. If you use the "Statement / Screenshot" scan to import several transactions at once, the image you select or capture — which may be a photo or screenshot of a bank or credit-card statement or a transaction list, and can contain sensitive financial details such as merchants, amounts, dates, and partial account information visible in the image — is uploaded to our backend storage and sent to our AI provider to read the transactions. These statement/screenshot images are processed only to extract the transactions and are then deleted from our storage after processing; we do not retain the image itself.
- Voice or typed transaction descriptions. If you use the "Speak" feature to add a transaction, your speech is first converted to text. This happens on your device when your device supports on-device recognition; otherwise the app uses your device's built-in speech recognition service (for example, Apple's), which may process the audio to produce the text. That text is then sent to our AI provider to parse it into a transaction. Snowballer does not record or store raw audio on our servers.
Information we do NOT collect. Snowballer does not connect to your bank, does not collect your precise location, does not use advertising or analytics trackers, and does not access your contacts, your photo library beyond the specific images you pick, or your microphone beyond voice entry you initiate.
How we use your information
- To provide core features — tracking habits and spending, calculating streaks and insights, and running challenges.
- To power the AI features you trigger. When you scan a receipt or check, scan a statement/screenshot, use the "Speak" feature, or view AI coaching, the relevant data (the image you submit, the text you submit, or a summary of your recent habit and spending activity) is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate the result. Anthropic processes this data as a service provider to deliver the feature; we do not permit it to be used for advertising.
- To send you reminder notifications, if you enable them. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device and can be turned off anytime.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for marketing or advertising. There are no ads in Snowballer.
Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers needed to run the app, and only for that purpose:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage. Your synced data lives here. See supabase.com/privacy.
- Anthropic — AI processing for coaching, receipt/check reading, statement/screenshot reading, and transaction parsing. See anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
- Apple / Google — distribute the app and deliver notifications as part of their platforms.
No other third parties receive your personal information. We would disclose data only if legally required (for example, a valid court order), and we would tell you unless prohibited from doing so.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit. Database access is enforced per-account with row-level security, so your
records are only readable by your own login. Login sessions on your device are kept in secure platform storage.
No system is perfectly secure, but we have designed the app so that even we have no routine access to your
individual entries.
Where your data is stored
Your account and content are stored using Supabase, our backend and storage provider, on servers
located in the United States. Access is protected by authentication and row-level security so that
you can only access your own data. Receipt and check images you save are kept in a private storage bucket
accessible only to you; statement/screenshot scan images are processed and then deleted as described above.
A copy of your data is also cached on your device so the app works quickly and offline.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained while your account is active. When you delete a transaction, any receipt/check image saved
with it is deleted too. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Account → Delete Account),
which permanently removes your habits, transactions, challenges, coaching messages, associated stored images, and
your login. This is immediate and cannot be undone. You may also email us to request deletion.
Your choices and rights
- Access: your data is visible in the app itself — habits, history, and transactions are all displayed to you.
- Correction: you can edit or delete any habit or transaction in the app.
- Deletion: use Account → Delete Account to permanently remove your account and all associated data.
- Notifications: opt in or out anytime in the Account screen or your phone's settings.
For California residents
We do not sell or "share" personal information as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act
(CCPA), and we do not use your data for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can exercise your rights to
access, correct, and delete your data directly in the app (see "Your choices and rights" above) or by contacting
us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.
International users
Snowballer's servers are located in the United States. If you use the app from outside the U.S., your information
will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
Children
Snowballer is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
