Snowballer fact sheet

What it is

Snowballer is an iPhone app for paying off debt with the snowball or avalanche method. You type one rough number, what you owe, and it shows the month you will be debt-free. From there you add your real debts, log payments, and watch the date move.

The payoff planner is free. A paid tier, Snowballer Plus, adds bank sync and a few power tools. The same math runs in two free tools on this site that need no account: a browser calculator and a downloadable spreadsheet.

How the price compares

Prices in US dollars from each company's own website, checked October 6, 2026. These three are budgeting apps; Snowballer is a payoff planner and needs no budget. Some single-purpose debt apps cost less than Snowballer Plus.

Privacy and data

• Data is not sold and is not shared for advertising. The app has no advertising trackers.
• Bank linking is optional and read-only. You sign in through Plaid; Snowballer never sees a bank username or password and cannot move money.
• Payments are handled by Apple. Snowballer never receives a card number.
• Crash reports are configured to leave out identity and financial entries.
• An account and everything in it can be deleted from inside the app.

What it does not do

• It is not on Android.
• Bank sync does not work with banks outside the US.
• It does not negotiate, consolidate or pay debts for you, and it is not financial advice or credit counseling. It is a planner.
• The debt-free month is an estimate. Real statement interest shifts a little with payment timing.

How the math works

Each month, interest is added at the annual rate divided by twelve, every debt gets its minimum, and whatever is left goes to the first debt in the order until it reaches zero, then rolls to the next. Snowball orders by smallest balance; avalanche by highest rate. You can check any result against the browser calculator or the formulas in the spreadsheet, which are open to read.
