The Best Debt Snowball Apps in 2026: An Honest Comparison
Facts checked November 2, 2026. Prices are U.S. prices from each company's own pricing page or App Store listing on that date. Prices change, so confirm before you subscribe.
A debt snowball app does one job: it takes your list of debts and the amount you can pay each month, then tells you which debt to attack and when you will be done. You list balances from smallest to largest, pay minimums on everything, and put every extra dollar on the smallest one. When it is paid off, its payment "rolls" into the next debt.
You can do this on paper or in a free debt snowball spreadsheet. An app is worth using if it saves you the recalculating, reminds you what is due, and keeps you motivated. Below are seven real options, what they cost, and who each one fits. We make Snowballer, so it is listed first. We have tried to be fair to the others, and several of them are very good.

What about Tally? Tally was a well-known credit card payoff app. It shut down in August 2024, and its consumer app is gone, so it is not on this list.
1. Snowballer (iPhone)
Best for: people who want to see their debt-free month on their phone, and maybe never pay anything.
Snowballer is free on the App Store. You add your debts and what you can pay each month, and it builds a snowball plan (smallest balance first) or an avalanche plan (highest APR first). The main screen is your debt-free month. When you log a payment, the date updates.
Free features include what-if chips (for example, what an extra $25 a month does to your date), a list of what is due next in date order, a home screen widget, milestones, and a share card that can hide dollar amounts. It also has privacy features: Face ID lock, balances hidden in the app switcher, and payment reminders that never show a debt name or amount on your lock screen. There are no ads.
Snowballer Plus costs $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, with a 14-day free trial for new subscribers. It adds bank sync through Plaid (U.S. banks), a custom payoff order, "pick your debt-free date," a recurring-charges finder, a monthly AI summary of your spending, and CSV export.
Trade-offs: Snowballer is iPhone only, with no Android or web app. It is also newer than most apps here; it launched in June 2026. If you want to check the math first, try the debt snowball calculator in your browser. You can see pricing and privacy details on the fact sheet.
2. Undebt.it (web, iOS, Android)
Best for: spreadsheet-minded people who want the most payoff methods for the least money.
Undebt.it began as a web app and now offers mobile apps too. The free version is generous: unlimited debts, all eight payoff methods, Excel export, support for promotional interest rates, and method comparison. Undebt.it+ costs $10 a year, down from $12 in 2026. It is a one-time payment, not a subscription, so nothing renews unless you choose to pay again. It adds bill tracking, text and push reminders, calendar sync, a YNAB link, bank sync through SimpleFIN (you pay SimpleFIN separately), and ad removal. The trial lasts 30 days and does not need a card.
Trade-offs: The free version shows ads, and it has so many options that it can feel like a lot. If you want a simpler phone-first app, see our Undebt.it alternatives guide.
3. Debt Payoff Planner & Tracker (iPhone)
Best for: a straightforward payoff calculator with a long track record.
Made by OxbowSoft, Debt Payoff Planner needs only three things for each debt: balance, APR, and minimum payment. From those it builds a repayment schedule. You can choose snowball, avalanche, snowflake (one-time extra payments), or a custom order. The app is free to download. Its App Store listing shows in-app purchases from $6.99 to $41.99. We did not confirm which features each purchase unlocks, so check inside the app.
4. Debt Free – Pay Off Debt Faster (iPhone)
Best for: people who want their data kept on the device, with no account.
Debt Free by Mobile Innovations has been around since 2014. Its listing says it has no ads, no tracking, and no required account, and that core features are free for unlimited debts. It supports snowball, avalanche, snowflake, and custom strategies. The App Store lists in-app purchases at $1.99 and $9.99. If you are switching from Debt Free, we wrote an honest page on what Snowballer does and does not do.
5. EveryDollar (iPhone, Android, web)
Best for: people following Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps who also want a full zero-based budget.
EveryDollar is Ramsey Solutions' budgeting app. Its free version covers budgeting with manual transaction entry. Premium costs $17.99 a month or $79.99 a year after a 14-day trial. It adds bank connect, a debt payoff tracker, and coaching. EveryDollar lists debts from smallest to largest, which is the snowball order. According to its help center, the on-track checks and the adjustable debt-free date are Premium only.
Trade-offs: EveryDollar is a budget app first. It follows the snowball method and does not offer an avalanche option in the materials we read.
6. YNAB (iPhone, Android, web)
Best for: people whose real problem is the monthly budget, not the payoff order.
YNAB costs $14.99 a month or $109 a year. The free trial is 34 days if you sign up on its website and 30 days in the App Store listing. It is a strong budgeting system. For debt, its App Store listing describes a Loan Planner that shows time and interest saved. That is a different tool from a multi-debt snowball planner. Many people pair YNAB with a dedicated payoff tool, and Undebt.it+ can link to a YNAB account.
7. Monarch (iPhone, Android, web)
Best for: couples and households who want every account, including investments, in one place.
Monarch costs $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Its listing says it syncs credit cards and loans and shows statement balances and minimum payments due, along with a bills calendar. It is an all-in-one money dashboard, not a snowball planner. Choose it if you also want budgeting, net worth, and sharing with a partner.
How to pick
- You only want a payoff plan and a date: Snowballer (iPhone), Undebt.it (any device), Debt Payoff Planner, or Debt Free. All four have a free way to start.
- You want bank sync for your debts at the lowest cost: Undebt.it+ at $10 a year plus a SimpleFIN subscription, or Snowballer Plus at $39.99 a year through Plaid.
- You need a full budget too: EveryDollar, YNAB, or Monarch. Budget for the subscription.
- You use Android: Undebt.it, EveryDollar, YNAB, or Monarch. Snowballer is iPhone only.
Whichever tool you choose, the method matters more than the app. Pay at least the minimum on every debt, put the extra on one target debt, and roll each paid-off payment into the next. If you are not sure the math works for you, run your numbers in the free calculator or look at a worked example like paying off a $5,000 credit card.
